Notes
Most likely a study for Along the Shepaug, JFF.184, and an intermediate 16 x 20 version of the same scene, The Shepaug, which Folinsbee sold to the Women's Club of Erie, Pennsylvania in 1924. Although originally believed to be a New Hope subject, the painting depicts a wintery scene along the Shepaug River in Litchfield County, not far from Washington, Connecticut, where Ruth Folinsbee's family maintained a country residence.
