Notes
Hellgate is a section of the continuation of Sasanoa River (a branch off the Kennebec that begins just below the Bath bridge) after it has passed through Hockomock Bay on its way to join the Sheepscot River near Macmahan Island. Folinsbee often visited Hellgate on Sketch, his 25-foot open lobster boat that he and his son-in-law Peter G. Cook used as a floating studio.
