This painting maybe a study for the larger painting (Snow Patches, #1259, whose current location is unknown). It is possible that both works were painted from the same vantage point in Woodstock, New York during the winter months of 1913-1914. At the time, he was studying with Birge Harrison at The Woodstock School of Art, an extension of the Art Students League of New York, whose emphasis was on Plein-Air painting. A method of working that Folinsbee continued to use through out his career.
