Notes
This painting received a number of favorable reviews when exhibited at Folinsbee's annual show at Ferargil Gallery in 1925. One reviewer remarked that "if it has permanence of emotional appeal in its beauty of relations of line and rhythm and its resolution of all this big detail of landscape into unity of impression, one does not need to invest it with any associations or allusions to heighten its challenge." The New York Times' critic also saw the main value of the painting in its formal elements, writing that "the splendid curve of a bridge rounds the composition and a green house and a red house next to one another stops the line in the right place. The red and green play solo parts on a background of grayish snow and dull orange trees." Sadly, the painting was destroyed in 1930, so we will never have the chance to see what it looked like in color.
